A bone marrow transplant is a treatment that replaces bone marrow that isn't creating enough healthy blood cells with healthy blood-forming stem cells. A stem cell transplant is another name for a bone marrow transplant. If your bone marrow stops functioning and does not create enough healthy blood cells, you may require a bone marrow transplant. Cells from a donor or your own body can be used in a bone marrow transplant (allogeneic transplant). Your general health and the state of your condition can be evaluated by a range of tests and procedures. Additionally, the examinations and treatments make sure that you are physically fit for the transplant. The assessment could take a few days or longer. A lengthy, thin tube (intravenous catheter) will also be inserted into a significant vein in your neck or chest. The catheter, which is sometimes referred to as a central line, is often left in place during your therapy. The central line will be used by the transplant team to inject drugs, blood components, and the transplanted stem cells into your body.
